As a centre of excellence The Garden Clinic can offer the full range of immunological (Oxford) and viral load (Chelsea & Westminster) measurements to support treatment decisions and has close links with the Royal Free Hospital laboratory who process retroviral resistance profiles. The Garden Clinic can also offer nutritional and emotional support in combination with information and advise on a wide range of medical and social issues through the multi-disciplinary team. The clinic has looked after more than 250 people with HIV infection in Upton Hospital since 1988.

The general clinic, medical and nursing staff have a wealth of experience of people with HIV related needs and the Health Advisers offer ongoing support and complementary care to patients and their carers.

Both Consultants, Dr. Stephen Dawson and Dr. Noreen Desmond have gained extensive experience of HIV medicine at teaching hospitals in London before taking up post in Slough. They are part of a team comprising a Community Liaison Nurse, Cathy Woods, an HIV dietitian, Carol Cornish and a Social Worker, Judy Marshall providing a support network within the clinic, hospital and community setting.

People with acute illness are treated in the Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospital's Trust, the local hospitals with whom we have close working relationships. At Upton Hospital there is a respite suite supported by the HIV team and there are well established links for respite care with a respite facility in Bodmin, Cornwall.

The clinic staff are supported by an extensive library of books and journals as well as CD-ROM access to data bases and Internet facilities.

The local HIV organisation providing support, Thames Valley Positive Support (TVPS) is based in Slough. This organisation offers a variety of complementary therapies and support services.
